WHO CAN TELL?
By Kevin Greene
Seen a post the other day that said. “If your Church doors closed today, would your community notice tomorrow?”
Ponder that statement for a moment.
You may attend a church that is large with some of the nicest modern conveniences of today. Your Sunday morning crowds may number in the hundreds. You may attend a church with not much to speak of other than the walls keep out the weather. Your Sunday morning crowd is doing well to see a double digit attendance. In either scenario, if today the doors of your church are barred and no one could go in or out, would the people one street over or just around the corner notice?
You may think that is a harsh statement, but listen the fact of matter is this. A church of any size should be impacting your community. Your impact to the community should be such that if tomorrow the doors are closed people all over feels the impact. If the only impact of the community is that the guy next door who goes to get his Sunday paper stops to think is it Saturday? Because there are no cars in the church parking lot.
Who can tell what God can do in your community with your church. Hey God sent Jonah into Nineveh to preach to them a message. Now Nineveh was not a little town by any stretch, the bible tells us in Jonah 3:3 “Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.” It would have taken three days to see all of the city he wasn’t walking into Mayberry, he walked up into the middle of a city and proclaimed what God bid him to say. Jonah 3:4 “And Jonah began to enter in the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.” What resulted is simply amazing. The King covered himself in sackcloth and sat in ashes. He put the entire city man, beast, herd, and flock on a fast, and cried mightily unto God to turn away from his fierce anger, and save them.
One man went into a great city proclaimed the word of God and the entire city was made right with God. Who can tell what God can do in your community through your church? We as Christian people need to accept the task at hand and spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Who can tell how God will bless an obedient church who reaches out their neighbors and unsaved friends? You want revival in this great nation and to see it turn back to God? It starts within you. Who can tell what God can do with a church that will reach out to their community.
